Careers Engine can publish opportunities to Telegram using a bot connected to your target channel or chat. This guide covers creating the bot, configuring the destination, and obtaining the credentials used by Careers Engine.

Create a Telegram bot

Open Telegram and start a conversation with @BotFather.
  1. Send /newbot.
  2. Choose a display name and username for the bot.
  3. Copy the bot token provided by BotFather.
Treat your bot token like a password. Never commit it to Git or share it publicly.

Configure the destination

Add the bot to your target Telegram channel and grant it permission to publish messages. For a group, ensure it has the required messaging permissions. Obtain the target chat ID and configure it alongside the bot token.
The chat ID must identify the destination where Careers Engine should publish opportunities.

Verify the configuration

Ensure your .env file contains the required Telegram variables and the DATA_DIR path configured in the Configuration guide.

Troubleshooting

Common issues include:
  • Invalid bot token.
  • Bot not added to the destination.
  • Missing channel or group permissions.
  • Incorrect chat ID.
  • Telegram API rate limits.
